Philips Carousel – Making Of Philips Carousel

Created for Tribal DDB, Amsterdam, Stink Digital and Director Adam Berg deliver this interactive campaign for Philips new CINEMA 21:9 TV. The cinematic proportions of the display became the theme of this piece. Adam responded with an idea for an epic frozen moment cops and robbers shootout sequence. This 2:19 film runs as an endless loop, allowing viewers to control their moves through the scene. The film also contains embedded hotspots, which, when triggered, give us a behind-the-scenes look at some of the shots. Yes, this film does share some creative similarities with pieces weve posted in the past. However, it is the mode of distribution thats really got me excited as the frequency of these types of projects are increasing. As many feared the death of the traditional spot, others embraced the webs potential to distribute longer form content. Not only longer form, but branded stories where directors and production companies had more of a front seat role. Adam had the opportunity to make a short-film which is quite far removed from the brand who funded it — and promotes them better than any product or tech-centric spot. This is an exciting time for story-tellers of all mediums. what does he mean when he says 21.9? is that an aspect ratio?

If the people who criticize this magical video could have done it better – or even made a LESSER video – you would have. But you didn’t. Which shows you’re all worthless hot air, and director Adam Berg is the Real Thing. Interesting, how the ‘slackers’ and do-nothings are the nitpickers. The ones here who are criticizing are the ones with no achievement in their lives.

    Worst “Making Of” Video Ever

The idea is really cool, but that cop-clown-cop can fit in 16:9 with some content up and down.

Of course, I’d love for this standard to become popular, but honestly I don’t see it happening.

Too late, or too many 16:9 monitors and TVs sold. Maybe in 10 years…

BTW what a joke of a Making of

@megamix1029 It’s a joke. The whole thing is basically an elaborate joke.

ugh. those first two pauses / directors make me cringe. aside from being terribly scripted for the commercial, they just make the filmmakers look like dicks.

He should make a war scene one :D DD

“Hold that for 5 hours” LOL I’d never be able to do that ._.

    wires (digitally erased in postproduction)

  12. ribenawrath says:

@megamix1029 the actors are literally just standing still. IT’s a computer controlled rig, so they can do a few passes and add green screens in where they need them and get away with it. Some of the suspended actors are on wires. It’s actually relatively simple.

  13. megamix1029 says:

I love the video, but this “making of” is a piece of crap. It’s scripted and they don’t say anything about how they made everything look frozen in time. The only thing I’ve pulled from this is that explosions require lots of light (duh) and that the video is only worth watching in the cinema, that is unless you wanna buy the new phillips whatever.

  17. djkbson says:

did 50 cent use this and add his own bit when he is at the back hiding or did they copy him and cut him out?

  18. SemperFidelius34 says:

at 4:20 notice there is a cop jumping out of thw window, how did they do that?

  19. chevy4oh2 says:

OMG It’s so easy. You can see this! You can see that! I really dont see why you people waste your time posting comments about how unimpressed you are. Here’s a fantastic idea… MAKE ONE THAT’S EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE! Don’t ruin one’s effort and accomplishement because you lack imagination, innovation or even the simple ability to turn your gigantic “I know it all” brains off and enjoy something for once.

  20. mikeysa says:

They give you enough info to figure out the making of. Everyone knows the story, I was talking about the way they did it

Actors on wires and a load of CGI
A 3D motion tracker combined with a composition program

I got my hands on a 3D motion tracker the other day. I ran my own test to copy the effect this video had. It’s a lot easier than it looks

  21. Grafbanaan says:

Yes without watching the making of i thought that they robbed a bank drove into a hospital Bcaus u see the cars jammed into it. Took a defending position there and one dude took the clothes of an officer and jumped out.

  22. Ninj44 says:

The whole thing was shot 50fps, so you don’t see the actors move so much. I think there’s three or four different shots in this thing, merged together. And yes, the bills and persons that are hanging in mid-air are practical, hanging from wires and stuff. The bullets and glass debris in the nurses’ station is rendered in 3ds max o.O

  23. evans13 says:

What kind of program did they use ?

  24. KingJaycob says:

haha xD ok can you hold this for 5 hours ? :D :D:D

  25. leandrobrou says:

Já não bastava o próprio comercial em si mas daí vem a explicação. Só pra humilhar mesmo! hahah
